UNIONS

AGVA, AGMA and AFM Performer Unions

Unions other than SAG, AFTRA and Equity protect performers and actors with careers in the entertainment industry. Three examples are AGVA, AGMA and AFM.

AGVA

The American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA) is an actors union, which represents certain performers in Broadway, off-Broadway and cabaret productions, as well as live performers in variety shows, touring productions, and theme parks. Jurisdiction between AGVA and Equity may require case-by-case determination. Members include the Rockette dancers at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

For more information, contact AGVA at 212-675-1003. Mailing address: American Guild of Variety Artists, 184 Fifth Ave., 6th floor, New York, NY 10010. (The union currently do not have a website.)

AGMA

The American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) represents opera and concert singers, production personnel, and dancers at principal opera, concert and dance companies throughout the United States.

According to AGMA's member-information handbook, in addition to improving contractual provisions for members' wages, hours and terms and conditions of employment, AGMA works to expand protection of health and safety concerns and towards the elimination of hazardous workplace conditions such as poisonous smoke and fog and unsafe raked stages. Additionally, the guild is dedicated to protecting the multitude of members' professional and legal rights. For more information, contact the guild directly.

AFM

The American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada (AFM) represents the interests of professional musicians. Whether negotiating fair agreements, protecting ownership of recorded music, securing benefits such as health care and pension, or lobbying legislators, the AFM is committed to raising entertainment industry standards and placing the professional musician in the foreground of the cultural landscape, according to AFM's website. For more information, contact the guild directly.
